9 names shortlisted for SEAT

The naming campaign, #SEATseekingName generated an incredible response from the public with around 10,130 name proposals received. Despite the vast number of entries, SEAT have whittled the proposals down to a shortlist of 9. For the first time in SEAT’s history the name of one of its vehicles will be chosen by popular vote. SEAT’s third SUV will continue its tradition of naming its models after Spanish place names, this began in 1982 with the SEAT Ronda and has continued up right up to the most recent release, the Arona.

The names that stand of chance being unveiled in the final three on the 12th September are the following:

The 9 names have successfully passed three different examination rounds so far as specified by SEAT, closely supervised by company experts as well as an external naming agency and an industrial and intellectual property agency, these were…

  1. Brand values and product characteristics - To begin with, names were selected that fit with the brand values and the characteristics of the new large SUV, SEAT’s third following the Ateca and the recently released Arona.
  2. Linguistic criteria - The names were put through a careful linguistic verification to ensure they are easy to pronounce in different languages and the positive connotations associated with them. Experts from a naming agency participated in this analysis.
  3. Legal criteria - Finally, the legal validity of the candidates was verified internationally to avoid, for example, that the names were already registered by other brands in any of the markets where SEAT operates. An industrial and intellectual property expert collaborated in this third and final stage.

SEAT is organising several focus groups throughout its main markets and will carry out tests in different countries where it sells its vehicles to select at least three finalists from among the 9 shortlisted names.

SEAT is going to reveal the names of the 3 finalists during a press conference on 12th September at the Frankfurt Motor Show. From that day until 25th September, the public can vote for their favourite candidate on seat.com/seekingname and the name which receives the most votes will be revealed on the 15th October.
