SEAT has revealed its 2016 Leon Cup racer, demonstrating the company's continuing commitment to motorsport.
When the new season begins, SEAT's successful Leon Eurocup will appear on some of Europe's most intense tracks, spread across six countries. But alongside it on the grid will be the new Leon Cup racer, a machine bursting with technology and boasting 330 PS.
The Cup Racer, says SEAT, will be continually developed throughout the season. More than 100 of these cars will be used by teams from 22 countries in a number of different race series.
The updated SEAT Leon Cup Racer TCR will feature a sequential gearbox (as opposed to the DSG variant), and will be tuned for endurance racing – according to Dr. Matthias Rabe, Vice President of SEAT S.A. for Research and Development.
Dr Rabe said, “Customer sport is incredibly important to us. The CUP RACER has been an exceptionally high-performance and successful race car from day one. Nevertheless, we have systematically developed it for this season to make it even faster. And with the TCR version, we are now also offering a vehicle optimised for endurance racing.”
“We are looking forward to the new season. Seeing and hearing the enthusiastic SEAT fans at the track is always a fantastic experience. And we will once again be offering them some amazing and thrilling racing”, he concluded.
The 2016 race calendar comprises seven dates on Europe’s best race tracks:
23/24 April: Estoril, Portugal
14/15 May: Silverstone, United Kingdom
4/5 June: Paul Ricard, France
16/17 July: Mugello, Italy
10/11 September: Red Bull Ring, Austria
17/18 September Nürburgring, Germany
29/30 October: Montmelo, Spain
SEAT's long running association with motorsport is a reminder of just how important the Spanish manufacturer takes the development of its high-performance cars. Technological breakthroughs on the track feed back in to the model range, creating ever-more exciting cars.
