SEAT Winter Safety Check and Car Care Guide

The first frosts may have already graced widescreens across Essex, but it’s still not too late to make sure your car is ready for winter.

Check out our spectacular guide on how to get your SEAT ready for the cold snap, including what you should pack from our Emergency Accessories Checklist – and don’t miss our fabulous 28-Point Winter Safety Check offer for just £29! That’s less than a family ticket to the Cinema and a bumper bag of popcorn!

Essential Cold Weather Checks

There are some essential checks you should make ahead of the cold weather to make sure your car is safe for winter.

  • Battery – A dodgy battery is in fact the biggest cause of winter breakdowns, if it's over 5 years old you are advised to replace it, if you are not sure how reliable it is, get it checked.
  • Lights – Visibility is the key to safety on those dark nights and days where visibility is poor. Make sure all your lights work, including fog lights and indicators.
  • Tyres – Check the tread, and ideally change to winter tyres. Why? See our special tyre section below…
  • Windscreen wipers – Check them for wear and tear, damaged wipers cause smears which increases glare and reduces visibility!
  • Screenwash – A 50:50 ratio is needed to prevent freezing during the colder months
  • Antifreeze – Again, you need the right concentration to protect your engine
  • Fuel – Don’t risk running low. Delays and diversions are a fact of life with winter driving, and you don’t want to find yourself stranded in the cold!

Haven’t got the time? Worried that you’ll miss something? Call Us! Our specially trained SEAT technicians will carry out a comprehensive SEAT Winter Safety Check for just £29!

An Important Note About Tyres

You may be reluctant to change your perfectly good tyres with plenty of tread for winter tyres just because it is cold – but did you know that at low temperatures - in fact below 7 degrees - regular tyres behave differently to winter ones?

Winter tyres are made from a special type of rubber that has been designed to be more flexible than regular ones at lower temperatures. This means better grip and ultimately a safer, more comfortable journey.

In Case of an Emergency…

So, in case you decide not to top up your antifreeze, check your tyres or replace your battery, make sure you have these essential items on every journey…

  • Safety Kit - warning triangle and high vis vest
  • Jump Leads
  • Tow Rope
  • De-icer and scraper
  • Salt and cardboard - to get out of snow/icy situations when stuck
  • Torch - wind up so you don’t have to worry about flat batteries
  • Blanket
  • Bottled water
  • Snacks

Actually, make sure you DO have them on every journey – winter driving conditions are not necessarily within your control!
